By Raghu Singh

There is a tremendous amount of waste products resulting from the use of paper products. The main question is how much of our timberlands have been destroyed to meet the need for paper products. There is an increase in carbon dioxide as the trees, which need carbon dioxide, are gradually disappearing. It is difficult to say how it has hit our environment but it wouldn't hurt anything to have more trees. To minimize the loss of trees, there are several ways we can cut back on paper at home and at the workplace.

Among the big wastes of paper, and time as well, is unwanted mail. You can cut your unwanted mail by going on the Internet and opting out of the mailing list. You should also see if your bank or credit card company permits you to do bill payments over the INternet and allow you to stop receiving paper statements. You will be able to reduce even more paper from being consumed and you can check the latest information about your accounts online. Once you get started with it, paying your bills online is very handy.

If you need to save anything, simply print out what you need, and forget about the parts that you will never need. Paying bills online will do away with checks and paper statements, and envelopes as well. The accounts only take several minutes to set up, and not much else is then needed. Some folks are afraid to do it because of security. If you don't like the idea of logging in to pay back your bills, you can have your bank do automatic bill pay for you. It not only makes bill paying simple, but it also guarantees that you pay your bills on a timely manner.

If you need to purchase paper, go with brands that specialize in recycled paper. There are numerous products, such as notebooks, notecards, and others, that are now made from recycled paper. Even paper towels and table napkins are being sold that are made with paper that has been recycled. You won't have to waste paper towels by deciding to use cloth towels and rags in the kitchen. Offices have ways to consumption of paper products, so do your best to encourage others to do their part. Unless you are the boss, hint to your boss some effective ways to stop wasting paper.

You can use paper that has been used already for scratch paper. Try using any paper for note taking or brainstorming; there is no need to discard the paper it at once.
